Ranger bounded into our family in 1997, a fuzzy 8 week old puppy
with a black tip on the end of his tail and a personality bigger than his feet. None of us had any idea
how big of an impact this pup would make in our lives over the next
ten years.
Ranger was a challenge practically from day one. I soon realized I
was in over my head and had no idea how to control this strong willed,
dominant pup. Unable to find any help, my desperation led me to try
to form a sort of "support group" for other ASD owners like myself
that were struggling with their dog. One thing led to another and
somehow NASRN was born.

Over the years, Ranger grew into a wonderful family guardian. He
adored "his kids" and watched them like a hawk. He knew that the
coyotes came up on the east side of the property each evening around 5
pm so he would always position himself between that fenceline and the
kids. He was very serious about protecting them. We always felt safe and secure when Ranger was around. Despite being such a tough guy, he also had a soft side and would sometimes try to hide behind me if something frightened him. He was beyond any other dog that I have owned, he seemed almost human to me. I could look at his expression and tell what he was going to do. I think he knew me just as well. In the ten years that Ranger was with us, he taught
all of us more than we could ever have hoped to teach him. He was
totally devoted to his family and I know he would have given his life
for any one of us. Without ever knowing it, Ranger has helped rescue hundreds of Anatolians.
Ranger will always be a treasured part of our family and
will remain in our hearts every day. We love and miss you Bubba Dog.
