Kohl & Tobias

Kohl was pulled from a kill shelter in Texas. He was a frightened and probably abused boy who cowered down and submissive urinated anytime you went near him.
Rather than take him to the boarding kennel we decided to foster him in our home. Over the months that followed he grew to be more confidant and outgoing and no longer fearful.
He befriended all the new foster dogs that came to stay, while he patiently waited for his own forever home to come along.

Tobias came to us a young pup from a temp foster from a local shelter. Tobias and Kohl were instant friends.
They played together constantly. Kohl looked out for Tobias and taught him how things went around the house.

In a few short weeks, Tobias was quickly adopted by a wonderful couple. The day Tobias left for his new home Kohl was not feeling well.
A visit to the vet and it was determined he had a fever and some nasal drainage. We thought it was kennel cough.

A week after Tobias had gone to his new home we got the phone call that changed our lives. Tobias was having seizures. The vet had diagnosed him with distemper. Sadly, this sweet innocent puppy did not make it. We were all utterly devastated by his loss.

Apparently this poor little baby had been exposed to the disease somewhere prior to coming to us and was already developing the final stages.
Kohl was still struggling with his fever on and off and the nasal discharge. Another trip to the vet and it was determined that Kohl had distemper after having been exposed to Tobias.

Kohl fought valiantly for his life for a couple weeks until his body was just too weak to fight anymore.
With the heaviest of hearts we sent Kohl to the Rainbow Bridge two weeks to the day after Tobias made his journey. The two friends are now together again, playing happily.
