Meet Zoey!  She is a beautiful little tripawd Sloughi x  Shepherd mix (our best estimate using Dog Scanner Breed ID.)

Zoey came into the shelter as a stray so we have no background on her.  She is spayed, fully vaccinated and is heartworm negative. Estimated DOB March/2019.  Zoey currently weighs about 50 lbs.  She wont get too much bigger but she may fill out with a few more pounds as she starts to fully mature.  Since she has only 3 legs, it will be best for her to stay a little light to put less stress on her hips.

The shelter vet though her missing leg may have been a birth defect and not an amputation but we will likely never know how she ended up being a three legged girl.  But...  SHHHHH don't say it too loudly because Zoey is not aware that she is different from other dogs or is missing a leg.  She is a pistol!  She can run like the wind and is a very energetic pup!

Zoey is crate trained and potty trained.

She is good with male dogs and would really LOVE to have a canine companion.  She will do best as the only female dog in the home.

She is good with cats

Good with older children, we have not tested her with young children/toddlers.

Notes from her foster mom:

The first thing you’ll notice about Zoey is how incredibly gentle and sweet this girl is. The second thing you’ll notice is how incredibly fast she is despite her three legs. Although she looks like a mini-Anatolian Shepherd, she acts very differently. This girl has some high energy levels and is always ready to play. She loves dog toys and plays fetch so nicely. She’ll bring the ball right back to you and always let’s you take it from her so you can throw it again. While she does like to romp, she is able to sit quietly in her crate for most of the day while my son does virtual school. At night she snoozes in the family room, usually snuggled next to someone, while we watch tv. She does well with using the bathroom outside and is very efficient about it.

Zoey gets along really great with my large male Anatolian. However, she does not get along at all with my female. She has been aggressive with her and should probably not be in a home with another female dog. Zoey is very gentle with her humans, but  a home with older children would be best because she still has some manners to learn. She can be a little mouthy which we are working on, but she’s so gentle that it’s almost cute. She jumps up to greet you so we are working on that too. She’s very smart and learned sit in one day.

She is crate trained, and loves her crate. She does bark a bit when we leave the house, but she settles down quickly.  She does have a tendency to eat bits of dog toy she chews off, so you have to watch her. She does seem to know what’s hers to chew and what’s not, so none of our human things have been chewed. She loves her Nyla bones quite a bit. She can be a little protective of her crate when she’s inside it, and has growled when our other dogs go near, but she’s fine with humans near her crate. She is has no resource guarding issues and has no problem sharing her high value treats with her big brother.

Transport: **PLEASE READ CAREFULLY**

  • If you are within 1,000 miles, we can usually help with transport using volunteer drivers (depending on the route/availability of volunteers).
  • If you live farther than 1,000 miles, we can still assist, however, the adopting party will need to drive any mileage over 1,000 miles.  For example, if you live 1200 miles away, you would have to drive 200 miles out.
  • Not sure how far away you are?  Please ask google, she will tell you!
