Izzy (aka: Isabella, IzzyB) is a 3 year old spayed female Anatolian Shepherd mix. She is a smart dog, looking for a very special type of home. After spending 2 ½ years in with her family that loves her dearly, they realize that Izzy needs a home that better meets the needs of her breed and personality.

Izzy needs an alpha owner who is willing to build trust and understand her breed. Izzy thrives in a home with low traffic, no other animals or small children, as her tendencies as a ‘protector of her herd’ can result in aggression if not managed appropriately.

Accordingly, an ideal owner is someone who is comfortable managing a strong, self assertive dog such as Izzy. She does have a bite history: she has bitten one dog twice, and a one person (no reports to animal control or police). In each case, she was protecting her home and family. In the case of the person, the woman had previously walked and housesat Izzy. The incident happened when the house sitter/walker came into the house with Izzy in the backyard. Izzy was agitated that someone was in the house, bit her index finger when the door was opened and broke the skin, before retreating into the back yard.

Training:
When Izzy was a puppy, she was trained at Napa Valley Dog Training Club. http://www.nvdtc.org/

At the age of 2, she received intensive behavioral training for a four week, sleep over period at K9 development in Tracy, California. http://k9development.com

Her family manages her behaviors by muzzling her and crating her when other people and dogs are in the vicinity. Izzy is crate trained, she enjoys her bed(s), heals on a leash and obeys basic commands (stay, leave it, bed, come) but can be very stubborn and sneaky at times (taking food off table, sleeping on couch when no one looking, digging). Bones and other interactive food toys help curb her boredom.

Izzy is very playful once she is comfortable. In her current home she adores his 14-year-old ‘brother”. She loves hanging out in the backyard, chasing birds, flys, bees, etc. She also enjoys the leaves of our fig tree. She is an active and intelligent dog that benefits from regular exercise and training.
