Meet Hamlet!  This handsome guy was born on January 8, 2021.  He was born completely blind and with probable hip dysplasia.  He was purchased as a livestock guardian dog, however, after getting him home, the purchaser realized that Hamlet was blind and would not be suitable as a working dog.  NASRN was contacted and we picked him up in the middle of March when he was 2 months old.

Hamlet's foster mom tells us that he is one of the sweetest puppies she has ever met.  He has a wonderful, happy temperament.  He loves people and loves to be loved on.  Hamlet also enjoys romping around with the other dogs in his foster home.

Due to his blindness, he will need a very special home with people who will be committed to training him and making sure their home and yard is conducive to his safety and comfort.
Hamlet was xrayed when we first took possession of him and he does have what looks to be hip dysplasia.  He is too young, at this point, to really know what treatment he may need. He will need to be xrayed again when he is about a year old and hopefully, at that time, we will be able to determine what, if any, treatment will be needed.
 

Right now, Hamlet takes rimadyl every day and he enjoys exploring foster mom's yard and playing with the other dogs.

Hamlet is a very BIG boy.  He weighed 45 pounds at his 3 month vet check up on April 8, 2021.  

Foster mom has been working on training Hamlet.  He is gaining confidence and is very sweet and smart.
